Welcome to Parenthood

I had intended to post several things this week/weekend, but life intervened in the form of our adorable new puppy companion, Rory. Suddenly all my attention has been diverted her way instead of going to things like slipcovers and savory dishes. We adopted her rather spontaneously from the Kansas Humane Society on Friday afternoon. She is a 7 month old Lab/Great Pyrenees mix who already weighs in at more than 60 pounds, despite being underfed! She has an unnaturally strong attraction to corners – chewing them, that is. Several pieces of furniture have already felt the powerful caress of her jaw. Luckily rawhide chews and rope toys seem to keep her satiated. We are enjoying getting to know her and discovering all of Rory’s delightful little personality quirks. Hopefully she doesn’t find us too quirky ; ) Hooray for puppies!

  2. She is absolutely SO cute.

You should see if she likes hide and seek. Gilly plays it sometimes, but she’s the only dog I’ve ever had who does. When she’s occupied with Ben, I’ll run back to our bedroom and hide in the closet or something, then I call her. She comes RUNNING back to find me, and… I’m not there! So she starts sniffing around looking for me, and she gets SO excited when she finds me. It’s soooo adorable. It’s really great when I find a good hiding spot, and she freaks out for at least ten minutes before she finds me. I feel like it’s a great way to wear her out, and all I have to do is sit there. 🙂
